Child Language Brokering
I was commissioned to design short graphic novel strips for an e-book using children's (aged 13-15 years old) original writings and drawings for a research project conducted by the Thomas Coram Research Unit at the UCL Institute of Education. The ‘Child Language Brokering: Spaces of identity belonging and mediators of cultural knowledge’ project investigates the practices of young interpreters. In this research arena, young interpreters are referred to as child language brokers. Child language brokers are children or young people who translate or interpret on behalf of adult family members, siblings or peers who do not speak the local language. In particular, the research focuses on how these child language brokers share and mediate cultural knowledge and how this influences their identities and sense of self.
I like experimenting with printmaking... some prints
I leave as they are, to others
I add watercolours or
manipulate them digitally...
